Join us for an inspiring and informal gathering at the beautiful White Label Project Concept Store in Berlin-Mitte for drinks, networking, and an art auction - offering a unique opportunity to discuss international arbitration and art.
The proceeds from the art auction will benefit the Africa in the Moot initiative, a non-profit organisation, and shall be a small contribution to ensuring that more participants from sub-Saharan African universities will make it to the Vis Moot final rounds in Vienna, 2026.
Africa in the Moot
Participation in the Willem C. Vis Moot Court Competition is often a first step of participants' legal careers. At the annual VIS week in Vienna students from all over the world meet, plead their cases, discuss, develop their legal skills, and build the network for their future professional careers. This follows an intensive 8-month preparation process where participants advance their legal skills and knowledge in international commercial arbitration. At the final rounds of the 32th VIS Moot held in April 2025 only 12 of 384 participating Universities came from sub-Saharan Africa. Despite the increasing interest in arbitration in Africa, African teams still have to overcome financial and excessive bureaucratic hurdles to participate in the Vienna finals. The goal of the Africa in the Moot Initiative is to support African university teams and build capacity on the continent. Through coaching, mentoring, education, training, and funding, the initiative levels the playing field for bright legal minds across the African continent—promoting inclusion, excellence, and representation in the global dispute resolution community.
